SL PRO the Breakdown
The SL PRO grip sock is the embodiment of the Sunday League mission of providing athletes of all levels with the highest quality sports apparel at affordable prices.
When it comes to reducing injury, and enhancing your performance and stability during workouts, choosing the right grip socks is crucial, but can be incredibly overwhelming. In this blog, we provide a comprehensive overview of the SL PRO and how its features compare to other leading grip socks brands.
To aid in your decision making process, we have broken down grip sock characteristics into 5 key categories to highlight how they will help you maximize your performance.
[ 1 ] Fit
[ 2 ] Fabric Materials
[ 3 ] Grip Materials
[ 4 ] Testing & Longevity
[ 5 ] Pricing
[ 1 ] Fit
The SL PRO’s compression fit provides very little room for movement within the sock. Often, grip socks provide solid traction between sock and shoe, but the foot is still susceptible to movement within the sock rendering the grips irrelevant. Along with a tighter fit, the SL PRO has 4 custom fits for all adult shoe sizes. Each sock size only ranges about 1.5 shoe sizes, and has its own custom fit and grip design to ensure a truly unique and catered fit for all foot sizes. Other brands only offer 1-3 socks sizes.
[ 2 ] Fabric Material
Made from a nylon, cotton, spandex blend, the SL PRO provides a breathable, moisture wicking design that ensures comfort in the most testing of environments. This blend is woven at different thickness levels in key areas to improve comfort and product lifetime. Thinner material on the top of the sock helps with ventilation, while a thicker, padded sole increases the comfort and lifetime of the product.
[ 3 ] Grip Material
Imperative for peak performance, weather proofing, and product duration, the grip material can truly make or break a grip sock. The most common materials used are PVC, Silicone, and Polyurethane, each having their own strengths and setbacks.
- PVC provides a strong grip connection, however, it is a cheap material, and only truly serviceable for lower impact activities like yoga or pilates. PVC grips peel off entirely instead of wearing. Even slight changes to temperature from washing/drying, or harsh impact from change in direction can result in grips falling off entirely. In addition, this material loses its bond to the sole of your shoe in more challenging damp conditions. This makes PVC unsuitable for outdoor, high impact sports, or activities that will be harsh on the wear and tear of a grip sock. Many brands utilize this material for its cheaper production cost.
- Polyurethane is another option when selecting a grip material. This material performs at a high level in all weather, and provides a low profile, but has two major drawbacks. It is a much more expensive material, and like PVC will peel off entirely with too much wear. Although it is susceptible to peeling it does have a much longer lifetime than a PVC grip, and a comparable lifetime to most silicone blends.
- Silicone shares many qualities with polyurethane, and is the material of choice for SL PRO grip socks. This material provides a stronger bond between the sock and sole of the shoe, performs in virtually any weather condition, and offers a slimmer profile than PVC. The two major differences lie in cost, and lifetime. Silicone blends are much cheaper than polyurethane making the sock much more affordable. In exchange, the silicone lifetime is slightly shorter than a polyurethane grip (roughly 75% the lifetime), but still offers plenty of usage especially when you factor price into the equation.
[ 4 ] Testing & Longevity
Although the SL PRO is our first grip sock brought to market, many iterations were worked through prior to launch. As a part of our mission to deliver the highest quality, the Sunday League team pursued extensive quality assurance protocols. This consisted of feedback from athletes of all types, and over a year and a half of testing from NCAA athletes of the highest level.
After vetting over a dozen manufacturers, and working through an equal number of custom fits, sock materials, and grip blends, the ideal combination of features and quality was finally reached.
[ 5 ] Pricing
Last but certainly not least, saving money without sacrificing quality is imperative for consumers of all types. While other grip socks brands can run from $15 all the way up to $45, Sunday League’s SL PRO sits at a modest $20 per pair. (Subject to additional deals and discounts.
Although this product sits at the bottom end of the pricing index, it performs at levels that rival name brand grip socks priced at the top end without breaking the bank. No wonder these socks are used by professional athletes and entry level athletes alike.
ConclusionThere is a reason why the SL PRO is fast becoming a favorite amongst professional athletes, and weekend casuals. The team at Sunday League has worked relentlessly to ensure the highest quality product while maintaining a modest price point.
Designed for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone seeking superior performance while reducing the risk of injury, the SL PRO grip socks feature advanced anti-slip technology and premium materials to provide exceptional comfort, stability, and traction during workouts, yoga sessions, and high-intensity sports.
